"Almost seventy years old and my son is finally bringing someone home", Wilfred Nimes had joked.
"What does Davin like best, for eating, I mean", his mother had tried. "Can you maybe not eat veganistic for one night? Or do you want something more like a buffet? Why didn't you invite him over for Thanksgiving, it would be so much easier to decide what to make. Everyone likes turkey!"

Luke had threatened to cancel the dinner, that he just wanted a FRIEND to come over, that they were the ones always begging to know more about his life. That he didn't want them to terrify Davin with nonsense stories about marriage and children and future. "He's just a friend", he had repeated about four times. "Don't scare him."

His parents had promised to behave. Had admitted that they were just so happy that he met someone, that it didn't matter how serious or not serious at all this was. But did he know that more and more states allowed same sex couples adopting now? Luke had been ready to blow a vessel, when his parents started laughing. "We have Python as a grandchild, relax a little."
"You're so adorable when you're nervous", his mother had added.

And tonight was the night, and Luke was bundled up inside his room until he heard the doorbell. Heard his parents giggle and move around like a couple of kids. Heard how incredibly happy they were with this stupid little thing. Maybe he should just continue pretending a bit longer.

"Luke! Come save Davin from us before we give him the third degree, won't you, son?!"

Here it goes.
